PK Summer Safety Spectacular, hosted by Palo Pinto General Hospital, is back

MINERAL WELLS, TX May 5, 2022   The PK Summer Safety Spectacular, organized by Palo Pinto General Hospital, is back for its second year.

The Spectacular will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at PPGH’s new Possum Kingdom Family Health clinic and Palo Pinto Emergency Services District #1, 55 South FM 2353 in Graford.

“We are helping families enjoy outdoor activities safely this summer,” Joshua West, family nurse practitioner at Possum Kingdom Family Health, said. “Our expert staff and community partners want to help you make this the best summer ever.”

The Summer Safety Spectacular is free to attend. Participants can enjoy games, face painting, emergency vehicles on display, giveaways, and safety tips on everything from boating, swimming and water sports to skincare, hydration, and seeking treatment for snakebites.

Remembering Wyatt Dale Water Safety Awareness, a nonprofit organization named for three-year-old Wyatt Dale Terasas who drowned on the lake in 2013, will give away free lifejackets to the first 125 attendees.

There were four drownings on the lake in 2020 and none in 2021, according to the Brazos River Authority. “We want to see that number zero again this year,” West said.

Food trucks will be available, and participants who visit the five PPGH stations will receive a free snow cone. The stations are hydration, sun safety, bug and snakebite safety, first aid safety, and health checkup, where participants can check their blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight, and meet West.

Participating organizations include PPGH, Possum Kingdom Family Health, Palo Pinto Emergency Services District #1, Crazy Water, Possum Kingdom Fish Hatchery, Sacred Cross EMS, Inc., CareFlite, Air Evac Lifeteam, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department – Possum Kingdom State Park, Overstuffed Burger, Filipino Food Truck, Toy Shop at PK, Graham Savings & Loan, and the Brazos River Authority.
